Day 36 (another slow day drifting south)

Sunday night - turns out Townsville shuts at 9pm! But not before we have found the ferry to Magnetic Island, booked it for tomorrow, and got sore feet looking for a bar that is actually open!

No complaints, we enventually ended up in a Korean restaurant in a courtyard, surrounded by bars, and sampled possibly just a few too many Australian shirazes (what is the plural of shiraz?) - well I did anyway.

Day had started, much like the one before, with a relaxed breakfast by the beach, a shortish (only about 160km) drive down the Bruce Highway (equivalent of the M1, but a bit less busy), with a couple of detours - first the Cardwell Gap (might have made that name up), with wonderful views over Hinchinbrook Island...

...then Taylors Beach - actually not that sure why we went there, other than it looked interesting on the map. If we had to wanted fish, it would have been perfect - excellent mud flats for digging up bait. Can't get it right all the time! But who cares!

We would have detoured up a dirt track to Wallaman Falls outside Ingham, Australia's highest single drop falls, but... a) It was a 120km detour, b) Nareesa was feeling car sick (my driving), c) we had already seen 200 waterfalls in Australia - it isn't called the wet tropics for nothing, and d) we have seen the longest single drop waterfall in the world - its in Guyana since you ask. So there!

Wish I could stay up long enough to see what happens in The Open. I have only just found out that France won the World Cup!
