Day 38 (south (again) towards Airlie Beach)

We are missing the European heatwave, but reading about it in the news, and distressed to hear of the fires all over the continent, and the resulting deaths. Our condolences to any who have lost loved ones.

We are also missing the great Brexit debacle - even from the other side of the world it is difficult to watch your own country descend into the self-inflicted nightmare that is unfolding. Maybe we should just stay here! Theresa, MPs - do what is right for the country before Mogg tries to take us back to a non-existent era!

Never has the term "act in haste, repent at leisure," felt so apposite.

Left Townsville in the morning and stopped for an extended lunch in Bowen, where the film 'Australia' was shot - never seen it but seem to recall the critics thought it was a bit of a turkey! Might have to see if it is on the plane home - just to spot the locations. Good old serendipity stepped in again to lead us to the best fish & chips - straight off the boat and into the deep fat fryer!

Bowen is also home to the Great Mango!

We are spending the next couple of days in Airlie Beach, from where we hope to see some of the Whitsunday Islands. Couple of days off driving too...

PS, for anyone interested I have put up a longer article on 'The Ghan'. Not surprisingly it can be found under the 'Articles' page. Or this link might work https://www.baldjournal.com/about-2

Be kind!

PPS, there is also a new page of a few Art Deco pics from Innisfail, the (self-proclaimed?) Art Deco capital of Australia. Under the "Gallery..." page (where else)
