Day 45 (Fraser Island)

I should rename this Fraser Island Lite. We fully admit we didn’t take full advantage of all that was on offer. We just couldn’t summon the enthusiasm for a day of bouncing around in a 4 wheel drive, high clearance bus - for 12 hours! There is only so much sand you can want to see. Yes we know it is the worlds largest sand island and a world heritage sight, but they wouldn’t let me take our hired Toyota Rav4 on, so they can stick it! Might have buggered up the booking - who knew there was a difference between AWD and 4WD.

Not sure Nareesa cared so we decided to settle for some walking on the sand tracks, walking on the beaches, a dip in the pools and a decent lunch in the posh resort - so not all bad! Driving on a beach will just have to wait for another day - someone will tell me I have missed the best experience in Australia, but we have done so much in the last 2 weeks that we have to leave something for the next trip! And the ferry trip there and back was worth the money on its own!

Just too make up for last night, Debra and Teena have prepared soup (and wine) by the fire in the back yard of the motel. So another booze free day has gone begging! Its now late and we are reflecting on what has been a fantastic trip to Queensland, after our brilliant time in Northern Territory. Tomorrow we enter New South Wales - as Cameron might say: its all downhill from here! But Byron Bay to look forward to before the final dash for Sydney - must look out those down jackets.
