Who has road works for 155km?!!!! Yes, 155, one hundred and fifty five!!! 50 odd kilometres, three times in succession! That's from Brighton to, I don't know...Luton!
60km/h on long sections of the main east coast highway. Traffic lights for heavens sake!!
The transport chief for New South Wales, that's who! I am starting to pine for the Northern Territory and northern Queensland - and we only left a few days ago.
As we expected traffic, people and congestion have multiplied as we come south towards Sydney. We are now only 300km away from giving up our car, and being back in urban society. But we have the bonus of looking forward to seeing friends Mike (from Nareesa's university days), Louise (from her teaching days), and Gareth and Sue (from my teaching days - that long ago!), who are flying in from Auckland to join us for a few days in Sydney - the bad news is that Gareth (also known as "More Beer" Jones) drinks like Cameron!
But today has had its highlights - this morning we saw whales migrating north AND south, some still heading for the mating/calving grounds and some returning to the Antarctic. We saw them off Cape Byron (the most easterly point on mainland Australia - as Nareesa says, I liked that - bit sad really!) Pictures only show the sea (that's Nareesa whale spotting) so here is the lighthouse instead!
Then pelicans in Yamba. Almost got the award winning shot of the fish hanging out of its mouth - but as usual...I didn't!
And to round off a long day a damn fine curry in Tuncurry. (so now I know how it got its name - I've decided "tun" means spicy!)
Forgot to post a picture of the excellent band we saw last night in Byron Bay, the Warren Earl Band - so here they are.
Bit dull today - but we did spend a lot of it in road works.
Who has road works for 155km?!!! Oh, yeah, done that bit. Rant over!
