A bit of a bumpy night & a short stop in Kristiansund

Glad I'm not on the Norwegian ferry that broke down off the Stad peninsula - that didn't look like fun. No problems here although just as I went to bed we went back out into the open sea and it certainly got a bit bumpy for a while. Lots of slightly green faces at breakfast and I think quite a few that didn't make it at all. Can't believe I am feeling as good as I am although in the fjords it is usually pretty calm. But even when we are in a swell it doesn't seem to be affecting me.

The talk is of course of the stranded cruise ship that we must have passed overnight, or at least the spot it lost its power. Judging by the press reports, losing power in a force 9 gale is not an experience to be wished for. Touch wood, no problems on this boat - yet.

Early in the morning we stopped for the first time in daylight and for long enough to get off the boat. Spent an enjoyable hour wandering round Kristiansund - and bumped into Geir!!! No, not really. I've also reorganised the photo gallery so there a few pictures from my walk on the drop down.

I managed a decent session in the gym this morning as well - thats two consecutive days - and its a long time since I could say that. Its not exactly over equipped but I managed 20 minutes on a bike, 15 fast walking and some stretches. The only other people in there were crew - too young to be passengers!

There is something quite mesmerising about travel at this pace on inland waterways. I can’t imagine getting the same enjoyment out of a Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise, if only because what you would see most of the time is…well, sea! But somehow watching the scenery constantly changing from islands, to mountains, to waterfalls to… is somehow calming. Which is pretty much what I have done this afternoon - listened to a bit of music, read a bit, wandered the decks occasionally and just watched the ever changing world go by. We are well into the 'snow zone' and we were treated to brief blizzard this afternoon. Exciting! I can find that hours go by and I haven’t for a moment been bored or restless. Maybe I should live on a boat!

Can't think of anything else to say today - brain is on a slow down. I will try to think of something to rant about again tomorrow - there's bound to be some shit go down in our parliament! Bye for now, I'm off to dinner...
