Yes, but is it art?

A fabulous day in the steaming heat of a Carolina early summer day - 94ºF or over 30ºC for the rest of the world. We did intend to do a substantial walk (honest), but the humidity certainly saps your energy and makes you long for the comfort of an air conditioned art gallery. Which, as it happens, NC excels in...

The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) turned out to be one of the best I have been to. Beautiful planted gardens with outdoor sculpture, reminiscent of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (near Wakefield for anyone who wants to go). Plenty of

Henry Moore peeking through the prairie grass - and you don’t get to write that often. And the more esoteric ‘broken chairs in a tree”, the William Blake impersonation and “Can I quote you?”

I might have made up the names of the pieces but they were certainly conversation inducing, and that was before we got inside. With a great (and cheap) restaurant, some great modern African Art, and an eclectic mix of international and local stuff, it was easily worth the admission price of precisely nothing. I was even moved to stuff a decent sized greenback in the voluntary contribution box!

With a trip to Target to buy a set of double 12 dominoes (you know what’s coming!) and an hour or so in the local Starbucks writing yesterday’s drivel, the day was almost gone.

Chicken on the barbecue followed by a game of "Ticket to Ride" (a game to rival Mexican Train, perhaps?), and a late night sampling of the previously mentioned Laphroaig, brought another great day to a close. Stayed up till nearly midnight but awake again before 6. On current projections I will be fully time adjusted just before we come home!

Mexican Train is on for tomorrow...

Until then, just a few of the memorable pieces.
