4(-1) idiots and a motorcycle diary - episode 7

Miles yesterday = 10 - just from hotel to the ferry

Miles today = 190

Miles so far = 1620

Countries visited = 6 (we’re back in England)

Where are we? - the village of Thrapston in Northamptonshire

Where is that? - no idea

How the mighty are fallen - from soaring Spanish castles to a Co-op car park in Northamptonshire! Which appears to be just about the sum total of my photography over the last 48 hours - other than this shot of the former police station in which we found ourselves last nigh, and the view from my window outside the port of Bilbao the night before the ferry. To be honest I have lost track if what day it is. Not even a 3 idiots selfie yet! But there will be...your correspondent will not let you down; there will be pictures of 3 men looking stupid soon.

But, on the plus side, we have safely delivered D’Artagnan back to his home in Hertfordshire - he’ll be fine, just needs to get off the bike for a while. And the remaining 3 musketeers have headed off to the middle of the country from which we can decide to go in any direction, depending on the weather. Ironically the weather is better here than in northern Spain! But then we should be in Segovia, where it is baking hot and a famous Roman aqueduct will have to await our attention for another trip. No complaints, we always said we will always stick together and when one is not so well, plans have to change.

Another 24 hours ferry crossing passed uneventfully enough - second place in both the general knowledge and music quizzes, was the highlight - which tells you just how boring it is. Somewhat relieved in a way as there was a bit of a blow in Bilbao and I feared a bit of a rough passage across the Bay of Biscay. But as it turned out, the weather calmed soon after we left port and its been fine the whole way. Even managed to get a decent sleep on this crossing. Although we also managed to block our bog.

And then there were three…

Feels a bit weird to be back in the UK after only 10 days, of what was supposed to be a 3 week trip.

A gentle trundle up the A3, round the good old M25 and we were back in Herts for a late lunchtime. Fond farewells, a tightened chain, and a quick coffee later and we are starting what actually feels like a completely separate trip; 3 idiots, here we go. Wales is looking nice…
