A day in and around Leavenworth

2ºC as we crossed the mountains yesterday. 22ºC today! Funny old world.

What an absolutely glorious day. What an absolutely glorious place. Being in Bavaria it is surrounded by glorious hills and on a day that promised day to day warm sunshine we just had to get up on those hills. The hills are alive ...

Icicle Ridge sounded suitably challenging (we even had to log in) but in the warm sun it was simply steep and longish - 500m of ascent and about a 10-12km round trip. But easily the most onerous walk we have done for some time. And I managed to get us up to the snowline - which had Nareesa looking askance at me for a brief while.

And have you any idea how good a crisp apple tastes when you are tired, hungry and thirsty? Ah, the simple things in life. You can keep your super yachts, give me the free outdoors any time. Although a nice hotel room to shower in afterwards was certainly welcome!

After a brief stroll through the town, a salad for lunch (Nareesa, obviously not me! - full Reuben sandwich and 2kg of chips - most of which I left - honest), and some much needed washing, we set off meet Alison, Mike & Clara for dinner in town. Many moons ago (20 years!!) in Flagstaff Arizona, Alison looked after our truck and tailer while went swanning off to Australia and New Zealand to miss the worst of the winter in the northern hemisphere. She was a teenager then, but not now, funnily enough. We hadn't seen her since and it was fabulous to catch up with her, her husband Mike and their daughter Clara. The obligatory selfie seems to be one of my worst! Which is saying something.

So thats all for today. My phone tells me I have walked nearly 25k steps and climbed 165 floors! Tired limbs, full belly and a lovely big bed to snuggle into. Night night. Some daft pictures from up the mountain to finish with.

It's that eejet again.

Almost down, still smiling

It's a long way down

Morning Alan, Sounds like a very full day but one that was definitely worth the effort. Stunning scenery. Well done for leaving the chips!
