A quiet day in Saint George

Not much happened yesterday, unless you count the removal team removing all the possessions from our house ready for the completion of its sale today. As I write this we are officially homeless! We move into our new house when we return in early June.

And this morning Nareesa is working so I have plenty of time and not much to say! So what shall I ramble on about?

I think I will start with the rather quaint state law that says you can't drink alcohol in a bar without eating. So, may I introduce you to "Beer Buddies"! With every beer you buy in a bar you have to buy a packet of peanuts or pretzels! The beer is ridiculously cheap - only $2.50 for a pint (and there were some on the list for $1.50), but the minuscule packet of nuts - that will be another 2 bucks please. Our server told us that she would only ask us to order a proper meal if we looked like we were getting seriously pissed! So that rule works!

We spent the morning catching up on chores, Nareesa working, me drinking coffee and rambling on. Had another fabulous salad lunch in a local cafe. I promise this will not turn into another celebration of salads, Greek or otherwise. (Unless I find a really good Greek one of course)

Then we set off for Red Hills Desert Gardens. It's only a couple of kilometres away but walking in the city is not a relaxing experience crossing what seem like endless new 5 or 6 lane roads so we reluctantly took the car for the very short trip up to the hills overlooking this rapidly growing city. But they have fashioned a lovely garden up there in the sandstone hills. It was relaxing, informative and warm. Nareesa boned up on her plants that need little water, noted several options for our new garden and I just wandered aimlessly and lolled about on swings! Amazing how you can use up a couple of hours doing not a lot!

Thankfully, lots of restaurants within easy walking distance of our hotel for dinner. We couldn't quite pluck up the courage to try chicken and custard (!!!!!), and went for a rather brilliant Japanese ramen. Which meant we couldn't manage the peanuts with our beer in the bar afterwards and had to hide them in Nareesa's handbag. Don't tell anyone. And once again ... who came up with the idea of chicken and custard?

So that's it for today. Just a few pictures of, and from, the desert garden.

Cactus 1

Cactus 2 (I'm good at plant identification)

Mesquite tree (probably) - and a couple of cacti (I know my latin)

Tough day

And this being Utah, you are never far from a temple
