A walk in the park and a trip down memory lane

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

That's Shakespear Regional Park and The Vic at Devonport. OK, so strictly speaking, The Vic is not a trip down memory lane as we have never been there before but it is so reminiscent of the Duke of Yorks back home that it felt like it.

But first things first: we have been joined for a few days by Alison and Peter on their round the world trip to see Dr Olivia, currently plying her trade in Queensland Australia, which is (almost) their next stop. Talk about a convoluted route to see their daughter! San Francisco, Fiji, New Zealand, Thailand, India. Could almost think you are not the most important thing on their minds Olivia - justsayin'!

But despite the fact it is only a month since we last saw them, it is great to spend a few days with them on their adventures - and ours. As ever Peter takes a fabulous photo!

So apart from indulging our eating and drinking habits, and our film watching passion ("Living" starring Bill Nighy since you ask), we have also ventured up to Whangaparaoa, Gulf Harbour and Shakespear Regional Park in search of Kiwis (birds, not people).

We failed on the bird count seeing only pukekos, but (fanfare please!), my foot was good enough to manage the hour long round trip walk from the car park to the lookout, with views over the pacific and down to Auckland city centre.

And even though the top looks like it is pasture in somewhere like Mid Wales, the route up through semi-tropical rainforests is definitely not like home. It was fab!

Nice waterfall too!

So thats it for my latest scribble as we head into Auckland for the night and hopefully, if all goes to plan, dinner at the top of the Sky Tower this evening, then lunch at a vineyard on Waiheke tomorrow. The culinary tour of New Zealand continues...
