Miles today: 155
Miles so far: 1236
u-turns: 0, that’s zero, possibly a first!
ruins visited: 0 again, but I have feeling that is about to change on the route south again
Going to have to be brief tonight, its getting late. Day on the bike in the middle of basically nowhere, miles from human habitation most of the time - interspersed with cafe stops wherever possible. And getting lost of course - see above! Which despite the few towns, I managed to find rather too easily. Mangaged at least 3 I think. I really wish I could find a way to have coffee without cake! Only kidding Nareesa, I only had cake in two of them.
Today’s pictures are mostly of wild moors and as Eric never tires of telling me the bloody bike is in all of them!
However a rather unexpected and magical final stop in Castletown just outside Thurso, where we are staying, threw up an unexpected bonus of a an old flagstone quarry that sent stone to all parts of the world - including The Strand and the concourse at Euston Station, apparently. But what views of the bay below Dunnet Head - officially the most northerly point on the mainland of GB and to be visited tomorrow immediately after we leave the hotel, after which we really can’t go any further north! But we will then head south(!) to John O’Groats. Bet you didn’t know that was possible.
And so to bed; another fine day was had by all, despite a bit of rain at the start of the day. But it ends again with warm sunshine and light until almost 11pm.
I’ll leave you with pictures of my starter of dinner - yes that’s a starter!!...
... and Rob taking tea! In Tongue! Don’t ask.
Where's the fun in getting to where you're going without a U turn; that will never catch on!
