Cedar Breaks National Monument

Miles today: 180

Miles so far: 3965

A short(ish) day. We even arrived at our hotel in Panguitch, Utah, before 4pm. It has rarely been heard of.

Not a lot to say today, you will be delighted to hear. Another ride through spectacular countryside with blue, blue skies. And I was on for blemish free leading day until the cafe I had chosen for breakfast in Kanab, 75 miles after setting off, was shut! I will never hear the last of it. The casual disdain for my efforts to find an alternative are locked in my memory bank and the fact that we ended up (via a u-turn admittedly) in an excellent coffee and croissant cafe has been swiftly forgotten. I would, of course, have given either one of them the same amount of stick!

Then of course there was a u-turn for the viewpoint I missed, but let's gloss over that!

Our main destination of the day, Cedar Breaks National Monument, often compared to Bryce Canyon, with similar hoodoo rock formations but much fewer people. And at well over 3000m above sea level, lacking in oxygen enough for you to know you are walking at altitude, when off the bike. And perhaps we shouldn't have been surprised given the height, it was cold, never above about 12ºC. Given that it is currently 36ºC in Vegas right now, which is only a couple of hundred miles away, the effect of altitude is only too clear.

Well that will do. We have bagged another decent enough and cheap enough motel for the night, but this is Utah so we will have to be selective about where we eat later if we want a beer!

The usual dreadful selfie.

Autumn is already here up at this altitude. Apparently they expect their first snow any time in a couple of weeks or so! Pretty though.

One of them moved! They looked so sweet just a moment before.
