Four states at the same time!

Yes, I know I'm an idiot and it's totally cheesy, but you just have to make fool of yourself at Four Corners, the only place in the USA where four states meet each other. In fact it is also the point at which the Navajo Nation and Ute Mountain Land meets, so perhaps it should be called Six Corners!

Anyway, its not the sort of place you would go out of your way to visit, but as we were driving right past, we just couldn't resist. Of course it's an obvious tourist trap and we bought some Navajo earrings and a couple of dreamcatchers too. We see it as making a contribution to the local economy. And that was after we had avoided the multi-location chains and had lunch in a 100% Native American owned restaurant in Kayenta. But no picture so here is the more sensible of us being restrained (not that kind) at Four Corners. But she is only in Utah! Ha!

While Nareesa was working in the morning I spent the time visiting the Glen Canyon Dam, just down the road in Page and peering into deep ravines carved out by the Colorado River, even before it gets to the Grand Canyon.

Quite a dam. But are they storing up not just water but trouble downstream? ie a lack of it.

And marvelling at the patterns worn into the rocks by time, wind and water.

Other than seeing some dust storms (are they going to become twisters?) on our road across the Colorado plateau today it has been rather uneventful.

Through yet more beautiful scenery we have now arrived in Durango Colorado, a beautiful old town in the Rockies, about 2000m above sea level. And still no sign of snow, except on the peaks! Phew!

Fabulous blue skies and temperatures in the 20s during the day but now getting much colder at night. Those down gilets are going to be coming out again. We're here for two nights so more on Durango tomorrow or the next day. Time for coffee. This place looks nice.

I lived in New Mexico for two years. Sad to say never got to four corners. Perhaps we may make a trip back to New Mexico as Paul owns 4 small lots outside of Albuquerque.

Safe travels.
