Hello everyone! It's at least four months since my last trip so it must be time to go and see somewhere else in the world. As a very special favour to our lovely friends Elisa and Andy, we are accompanying them (against our will, of course, they had to beg) to the southern reaches of Africa. In fact, eventually, to the Cape of Good Hope, the most south westerly point on the continent, and Cape Aghullas, the southern most point, where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean. All in good time though. First there is a 12 hour flight to negotiate, but rather more pleasantly only a one hour time change.
So here we are, a familiar sight, sitting at Heathrow Terminal something or other, starting as we mean to go on. Glass of something in hand, of course!
Anyone who wants to "share" this journey, welcome along. Anyone who is bored already, better look away now, although I hope there will be wildlife, social comment, some half decent photos and you know, my usual brand of erudition, acerbic wit, insight and exquisite writing 😂. Just so you know what you will be missing! Oh yes ... and irony and self-deprecation.
We start in Johannesburg, arriving very early tomorrow morning. Then after that mostly the Indian Ocean coast - the Garden Route as it is called, due to the diversity and variety of flora, I understand. If all goes to plan, never guaranteed where my planning is concerned, we should enjoy a variety of animals, beautiful beaches, historical sites, winelands and culture. Ready? See you tomorrow.
