It's still about the trees!

Blimey, this redwood forest goes on a bit! We're less than 200 miles from San Francisco and still surrounded by giant redwoods. We even managed to find one we could drive the car through. Cheesy, yes, but a bit of fun. And at the very beginning of California Route 1, to which we will return a bit later for Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur. I always thought Cal R1 started at San Francisco. But no, it starts with 20 miles of impossibly winding road at Leggett, to get across the mountains and to the coast. Oh, and with that drive through tree, a must do short detour right at the beginning. And it's nearly two and half thousand years old!

But it does make for some spectacular roads - here we are trucking down the Avenue of the Giants, in Humboldt State Park.

It's been the opposite of previous days - dry in the mountains and then we got a good soaking as we reached the coast again, just north of Fort Bragg (not the military one I understand, so we are not about to meet a bunch of squaddies out in the town tonight). We are hoping for more sunshine, some warmth and a good few dry days as we get south of San Francisco.

Not much to report today about our travels, so in the absence of much news from over here, I will just add my small voice to the howls of appalled indignation at our prime clown's failure to resign having been prosecuted for breaking his own laws and demonstrably lying to parliament in breach of the ministerial code. But why am I surprised, he hasn't a moral bone in his body and couldn't care less. And as for the remainder of his self serving calculating party, who will only remove him when they think it is in their electoral interests, I have nothing but contempt. You embarrass our country and undermine not only UK democracy but democracy in general. You should all be ashamed and one day I sincerely hope you are all held to account.

Right, got that off my chest. It's been bothering me for a day or so, since I read the news. And it has been a while since I have had a rant on here. Clearly not much to be said about today, other than despite the weather, it has again been fabulous. We did manage a couple of walks amongst the magnificent trees, if anything less visited and therefore even quieter. On one of our walks we came across more fallen trees (I guess even these giants that can live for over 1000 years do die in the end) and got some spectacular views of what they would look like from underneath. And here is a little munchkin for scale!

Impossibly slow wifi tonight so that will have to do - took me 20 minutes to upload these 3 photos! Night night or good morning, depending on where you are in the world.

The tree may have died, but it looks like some very pretty Fern are surviving nicely.

Spectacular doesn't cover it really! I get the feeling that there is something very calming/soothing about being n and amongst those seriously old trees. Amazing pics. Enjoy the (Cal R1) journey - which will no doubt be incredible.
