This is not really a blog page, more an attempt to make readers green with envy, or sick of me. Or very likely both.
Wrangell can wait for a little while while I just show off the delights of this hybrid powered boat, built a mere 3 years ago and, due to covid I guess, hardly used since. In fact most of the crew have readily told us this is their first voyage and first time in Alaska. To be honest, in some case it shows; their logistics for getting people on and off the boat needs a bit of work! But hey, ho, all in a day's expedition. "This is not a holiday, it is an expedition!", we've been repeatedly told.
But the catering, the facilities on board and the cabins are just brilliant. Last night's beef tenderloin, eaten by me and not Nareesa obviously, was staggeringly good, exquisite even, in my friend Peter's words. Producing a piece of meat cooked this well in a Michelin starred restaurant would be just about expected. To do it this well on a boat, for hundreds of passengers, is just amazing. It was mouthwateringly tender and tasted just perfect. I'm only sorry I forgot to take a picture before I had munched most of it (there is less than half left!)
And then there is the sun deck. Yes we have seen just about every season in the short few days on the boat, but when the sun shines, as it has quite bit of the time, it is warm and an absolute pleasure to be up on deck 10, soaking up the rays and the views at the same time!
Or deck 11. Man at The North Face!
And then there is the sauna with a view! Beautifully appointed in blonde wood ... (ok, better stop, I am beginning to sound like a marketing exercise). But how about this for a place to hang out, with it all hanging out (actually despite the fact that it is a Norwegian boat, they insist on covering up for the sensitivities of us Brits and Americans). Our view, looking out over the port at Wrangell, after a long hard zodiac trip!
And then finally, after sweating out all the rubbish, time for a hot tub, with views over the majestic mountains. Or perhaps a few lengths in the (very short) infinity pool.
And then, after more food, beer, wine and my usual drubbing at cribbage, we retire to this rather lovely cabin.
Sick of me yet? Yeah, thought so. Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb (or something like that) - here is the view as I type this trash. Bye for now x
