Things that go bang in the night

OMG!

Well that was exciting! A fabulous Spanish tapas meal was followed by a restrained glass of wine in the Acme Bar (yes it really was called that), and then a car blew up in the car park of our hotel. Literally blew up! We were so glad we weren't parked next to it - see the pink car that unfortunately was.

Dear Hertz, about that car we hired... Doesn't bear thinking about!

The fire engines arrived in double quick time so I was stood down for playing the hero (or in fact simply moving our car away to avoid some domino effect of exploding cars!). So that was last nights excitement.

Today has been somewhat more mundane unless you count the effort required to eat the bowl of porridge (oatmeal here) that was big enough to swim in. Portion size is undoubtedly good value, but can anyone seriously think this is a good idea - Nareesa and I shared this and still failed to finish it. And nobody has ever said I have a puny appetite - nor Nareesa come to think of it. That's a dessert spoon, not a teaspoon!

And so to Monterey, where we can already feel the warmth of what is presumably sub tropical sun. The plants are succulents (I think) and Nareesa is a happy bunny.

The trees have changed too - an avenue of eucalyptus for our walk into the centre of Monterey.

The sun is out and the hundreds of seals are frolicking for the tourists in the bay just off the pier. Either that or mating, I wasn't quite sure which.

So that will do for today. The porridge has finally worn off and since we didn't do lunch we are both ravenous for an American sized portion of something. Pub round the corner, here we go... (just a few pics first)

Monterey Bay. Nice!

Monterey Harbour.

A pair of numpties on Monterey Fisherman's Wharf.

Same pair of numpties. We didn't go in.

And finally a few more attempts to capture the seals. If only they would signal when they are about breach!
